MVD WALKING TOUR

What will we visit?

Montevideo: History, Curiosities, Present Day & Gastronomy in the Old Town

Duration: 2 hours

Languages: Spanish / Portuguese

Tour Description

If you are traveling to Montevideo, you simply cannot miss this tour!

In a maximum of two hours, we will explore the must-see landmarks of the city.

This is a free walking tour of Montevideo’s Old Town (Ciudad Vieja), starting at the gates of what was once the colonial walled city, discovering fascinating facts and key moments from the history of my hometown.

Among the many historical and architectural treasures that remain as part of the local heritage, you will find iconic landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, which was visited in 1988 and declared a Basilica by Pope John Paul II. You will also learn about remarkable curiosities, including the remains of our national heroes, the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, and the baptismal font of our national hero José Gervasio Artigas, making this site an essential highlight of the tour.

We will also visit the emblematic Plaza de Armas, also known as Plaza Matriz, featuring its historic fountain and its symbolic design linked to Freemasonry.

Next, we head to the colorful Mercado del Puerto, where you will find dozens of gourmet options showcasing classic Uruguayan cuisine, including our famous beef and excellent local wines.

We will also visit the Tango Museum, where you can learn more about this deeply traditional and sensual rhythm, and the Cabildo of Montevideo, which holds an important part of our national history.

At each stop, there will be time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the experience with friendly groups, great energy, and above all, a fun and positive atmosphere.
