Description of Lobos Island
We take you to Lobos Island, the largest Natural Reserve of Sea Lions. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, 8.5 km from the coast, with an area of 41 hectares, it is home to the largest colony of Sea Lions in South America. The island features a lighthouse built in 1906, standing 59 meters above sea level, making it one of the tallest lighthouses in the world. Lobos Island hosts over 180,000 sea lions and seals (they are mammals and can be distinguished from seals by having an external ear flap and walking on all four limbs). Their sense of smell and hearing are highly developed, and they have excellent vision underwater. On the beach, you can also observe other specimens such as elephant seals and a wide variety of birds. The native flora is represented by two species of cacti and one species of fern (calaguala).
